OLDIES BUT GOODIES

Whether sitting (or lying down, as you prefer) on the terrace of one of our luxury seafront apartments in Ibiza, while contemplating the calmness of the boats moored in the port, set against a blue sky background with the first chill of Autumn tempered by a bright and dazzling sun; it’s no joke, this is paradise on earth.
In such a scene of total bliss, calm and tranquillity, the imagination is triggered by the workings of the neural energy that retrieves those recollections hidden by the memory, jealous of the present day island.
So, the terrace. Close your eyes. Timeless tunes, oldies but goodies, playing on your Smartphone. Music that harks back to the cries and memories of another Ibiza, a precursor to the Ibiza of today.
Summer 1978. Bob Marley and the Wailers performed their only concert in Spain. Back then, Ibiza was a mecca for people who worshiped good vibes. As you can see in the concert poster’s image, they performed in the former bull ring. In the place where the former bullring occupied, you can now find the Bob Marley gardens.
1969. Pink Floyd played the soundtrack for the film More, by Barbet Schroeder. The film is a realistic representation of the island’s ‘hippiest’ era: free love, hard drugs and wild sex. One song stands out from the soundtrack: Ibiza Bar
May 1987. Barcelona, written by Freddy Mercury and performed as a duet with the soprano Montserrat Caballé, was first performed in Ibiza. It was during the Ibiza ‘92 festival amid the 5th centenary celebrations of the discovery of America, where it would have its grand finale, of course, in 1992. The performance took place in the Ku nightclub –now called Privilege– and both stars sang the song, which so expertly fused opera and rock, by lip-synching.
As we said before, Ibiza has some well known secrets. You surely have some too. But we’re not going to ask you to shout them from the rooftops.
